Description About Senna Leaf Extract
Senna Leaf Extract contains anthraquinones including dianthrone glycosides (1.5% to 3%), sennosides A and B (rhein dianthrones), sennosides C and D (rhein aloe-emodin heterodianthrones).
Extracts of the leaves, flowers and fruit of senna have been used for centuries in folk medicine as a laxative and stimulant. Senna is also included in several herbal teas, used for purging and in weight loss. The active components in senna extracts are anthraquinone derivatives and their glucosides, referred to as senna glycosides or sennosides.
Senna Leaf Extract is an active ingredient in commercially available laxatives. This purgative nature is mainly due to presence of certain organic anthraquinones like glycosides, which include dianthrone naphthalene glycosides and hydroxyanthracene. These glycosides are also known as sennosides. The presence of these compounds in the senna leaf stimulates the smooth functioning of the muscles that transport digested food in the intestines. This enhances the stool volume and increases the peristaltic contractions to move the stool out of the large intestine or colon. Senna leaf tea benefits include relief from constipation and cramping.
